Lean Six Sigma Certification Courses - Where Applications Are Useful
By Tony Jacowski

Lean Six Sigma is a very useful process in many different industries and organizations around the world. Not only does it offer a chance for improved quality in products and services, but it does so in a quicker and more efficient manner than traditional Six Sigma application. This is probably where the use of the word 'lean' comes into play. Since it is a quicker application, it can be more beneficial to companies who don't feel that they have the time to take on full Six Sigma Projects. Lean Six Sigma works by focusing on waste elimination and speeding up processes without impacting other areas of the business in a negative fashion.

Lean Six Sigma Certification generally comes after traditional Six Sigma Training because the lean principles are seen as an extension of the traditional process, which means that they are based on the same information and analyses. Therefore, learning the added principles of lean without knowing prior Six Sigma Methodology can prove to be disastrous, and nearly impossible for that fact. Waste reduction can help many businesses to quickly eliminate things that are no longer needed, such as excess processes, wasted time, and wasted movements. However, it also refers to overproduction, excessive inventory, and wasted human talent.

Reducing waste can be an effective way to speed up processes and make things more streamlined using the basic principles of Lean Six Sigma. By taking the time to figure out where wastes can be reduced, processes can become more effective, making customer satisfaction higher, company efficiency better, and the bottom line much more profitable. There is no shortage of applications for Lean Six Sigma Certification, from healthcare to finance and beyond. Even small businesses can benefit from a Lean Six Sigma project if they need improvements in an area but can't afford the time or financial investment of a full-scale Six Sigma project.

Lean Six Sigma applications are focused on speed, but it is important to note the difference between speed and schedule. Packing a schedule into a smaller time frame is not the goal. Streamlining processes so that schedules can be handled more efficiently is more of what Lean principles are about. The first step to using Lean Six Sigma applications in any organization is understanding their basis in traditional methodology and knowing the tools with which Lean processes operate. Once this is established, the benefits of a lean program will be noted and the process can begin so that improvements can be made in a timely manner.
